Many of our friends and neighbors within Pilot Hill Estates have taken advantage of burn season this winter, clearing ROW’s and reducing fire fuel on their properties. This is a major step towards keeping us, and our homes safe this fire season. But this is an ongoing process. Hopefully, every winter, we can take strides towards becoming a fire safe community. Until then, we recommend signing up for text message alerts from Cal fire. Follow this link,
https://plan.readyforwildfire.org
enter your mobile number and zip code. You’ll receive a text massage from cal fire requesting you reply with a capital Y. Once signed up, you’ll be alerted of any near by fires above 10 acres.
This is the best way to stay informed about near by fires, so you can start preparing for possible evacuations. Don’t wait for the mandatory evacuation alert. It is recommended to have a ready bag. This bag should contain anything you’d want to take with you in the case of an evacuation. Photo albums, passports, social security cards, marriage licenses, medications, even your favorite jeans. Whatever is important to you. Have it gathered in one spot so it can be grabbed in seconds.
Now consider your animals. What would you do if you only had 10 minutes to leave your home. Do you travel with your pet in a cage? If the cage can’t be kept in your vehicle over the summer, then consider keeping it close to your vehicle so it can be loaded up quickly.
We all hope there won’t be a fire, but it could happen at any minute. Stay prepared, stay safe.
